Arabesque Summer Camp

Arabesque Dance & Drum Summer Camp is now hosted by the Haliburton School for the Arts. Each course is an intensive 5 days with almost 7 hours of class a day in the beautiful setting of Haliburton, Ontario. Students receive a certificate after completing the course which is used as a credit towards a College Arts Diploma. The cost for each course is approximately $250. Accommodation is paid separately and can be anything from tent camping to a cabin in the woods to an apartment in town to a luxury hotel suite or cottage rental.

Bellydance Classes with Yasmina Ramzy are offered at two levels. In the five days, students receive instruction in Bellydance technique, choreography, folklore, finger cymbals, veil, cane and watch videos of the famous dance stars while receiving a history lesson. Level Two students work with live drummers. A performance on the College Campus presents the students work near the end of the week.

Drum Classes with Suleiman Warwar are offered at a Beginner Level but in 5 days of class at 7 hours a day, much progression is made in perfecting technique and skill as well learning many different rhythms, styles and composition leading to performance at the end of the week on the College Campus.

Prerequisites

Bellydance Level One

For those who are first timers to Bellydance class even if they have taken other similar styles of dance or are born into the Arab culture - this level is also for those who are at a Beginner/Intermediate level of Bellydance but have not previously studied with myself or someone with Arabesque technique before.

Bellydance Level Two

For those at any level who have studied with me before or have many years of training elsewhere and/or teaching and performing behind them. If still not sure, the student must have first mastered every aspect on my instructional video called Bellydance Movement Foundation to get full benefit out of Level Two.

Arabic Drumming

This course is best suited for students who have some kind of experience with any kind of hand drum and for those who have studied Dumbek before but have not had the opportunity to study extensively in the Middle East. There is difference between studying Dumbek with the source and studying from second generation. Suleiman will fill in the gaps and give many challenges to students of Dumbek while establishing a strong foundation for the beginner.
